Desktop Switcher is a taskbar utility to let you use virtual desktops on Microsoft Windows. Other operating systems support this feature, such as Linux. However, Microsoft has not made virtual desktops a priority in Windows XP/2003 and previous releases.
With DesktopSwitcher, you have the ability to use a powerful feature without spending any money. Create, manage, and configure your virtual desktops. You use them to keep your desktop clean.
For example, use one desktop for playing videos, another for listening to music, another for work, and another for browsing the web. You keep all your activities separate and prevent them from getting tangled.
Virtual desktops are similar to having accounts on the same machine. In this case, instead of having one desktop for each account, there are multiple desktops for each account. This gives you flexibility to stay focus on specific tasks. No need to navigate through a cramped taskbar. No need to open multiple windows.
Virtual desktops ARE supported by Microsoft Windows. However, there is currently no tool to work with them. Other software (such as Stardocks tools and NVidia tools) is limited by one very important feature.
If an application, on an active screen, is blocking, the whole switch is impossible. Therefore, desktop switcher was born to handle virtual desktops.
DesktopSwitcher sits in the taskbar, which is in the bottom-right corner of the desktop. Simply right-click on it to show the configuration menu.
Desktop Switcher has a configuration dialog. It configures the default shell of a desktop. Normally, this is explorer.exe. However, you have the option to define other programs.
To use the software, simply look for the icon with the blue text on the white background.
To create a new, virtual desktop, select Add New Temporary Desktop.
Onnce you do this, congratulations! You have created a virtual desktop. Give it a name, so you know what to switch to when you want to use it.
