Many Kabuki plays have themes of revenge or vengence, and the main actors often portray famous warriors of the past, or demons and heroes from Japanese myth. Kabuki is a centuries-old form of Japanese theater. It began in 1603 and continues today although has gone through many variations and changes in its history. Kabuki is known for its stylized drama and the elaborate costumes and makeup of the actors.
